Be Smart About Your Hotel Choice When Visiting Destinations On Your Southern California Vacation

If you have not taken a long trip by Amtrak  for a vacation, the time may have come to think about it. The national train network makes it possible to get around from most major cities. Given how beautiful and interesting our country is, the trip itself can be a big part of the total enjoyment.

San Diego is one of the best-loved vacation targets in the country.  The train runs right into the middle of town, with easy local public transportation to get you to your choice of many San Diego hotels, and most of the attractions.  San Diego is spread out over a tighter radius than other parts of southern California, notably Orange County and Los Angeles. You can find your way to a lot of vacation attractions by walking if you enjoy that.

What if your planning includes a search for stomach-churning roller coasters?  I’m talking about Knott’s Berry Farm and Six Flags Magic Mountain (aka Magic Mountain to the locals). The SoCal Guru  notes that these two destinations have focused directly on roller coasters and thrill rides to differentiate themselves from Disneyland.

Magic Mountain is crazy with wild coasters; the place is lousy with thrill rides. Check out the SoCal Vacation Guru for more information about the park, as there’s lots more to do there besides roller coasters (for the rest of your group who may not be coaster fanatics).

Knott’s Berry Farm also has really focused on thrill rides, although they offer Camp Snoopy, Ghost Town and many other fun attractions and themed areas within the park. We have talked to employees who can confirm that several of the roller coasters at Knott’s will push you to the limit of comfort.

Of course Disneyland is the first park that comes to mind, with Dumbo, Mickey, Goofy and the others. There are a few really good websites with helpful information about planning a Disneyland vacation as well as if you plan to visit any of the nearby Knott’s Berry Farm hotels. Disney has no-doubt done the most effective job of bringing imaginary characters to life, much to the delight of us all.

Universal Studios up in Hollywood would be a good next stop in your vacation, where you can chill with the likes of Homer Simpson, the Flintstones and Rubbles, Betty Boop and Spiderman. The SoCal Vacation Guru has a lot of information to help you visit your favorite Universal Studios characters, including important insight about hotels near Universal Studios Hollywood.

Whatever your primary vacation objective may be, it is important to be smart about where you stay.  You will spend way more time than you expected traveling around Southern California if you goof up the selection of your hotel.  And that is a waste of expensive time.
