Do You Need Teeth Bleaching?

There are many cosmetic dental options available to most of us today, but as we mentioned in one of our earlier articles, for most folks, cosmetic means teeth whitening. And that’s Ok. With that said let’s start with teeth bleaching.

Teeth bleaching begins with the application of a gel or a rubber shield to your gums. This first step is necessary in order to keep from harming the soft tissue in your mouth. After this first step, the bleaching stuff is applied while sometimes aided by a laser to heighten the results. You did know that this bleaching process was taking place in your dentist’s office, right? The laser was the give away!

However, after discussion with your dentist (of course) you will find that there are home bleaching kits available as well. The bleaching agent used is most likely carbamide peroxide solution and as we mentioned above is provided as a gel that is placed in a mouthguard type thing. The intensity and teeth whiteness you are looking for will determine your length of treatment. And of course, this should all be discussed with your _______? Dentist … right!

Teeth Whitening Strips

These teeth whitening strips have got to be the coolest things in the world. Not only are teeth whitening strips the most advanced and convenient products to ever overtake modern dentistry (well), they have also propelled the concept of teeth bleaching to new heights. These teeth whitening strips contain hydrogen peroxide. They are transparent strips and fit over your teeth virtually undetectable as they go to work activated by your mouth’s moisture.

There are several brands out there that are all competing for your money but they are all pretty much identical. They are applied for 30 minutes, 2 times a day for a total of 21 days. Some can be worn overnight while you sleep.

Your teeth wil eventually and gradually begin to stain again depending on your lifestyle and diet. If you consume red wine, colored juices, tea, and soft drinks you can be sure of it. However, with a bit of forthought and preventative dental care your teeth will remain healthy and pearly white for years to come.
