Drapes With Pleats - Fabulous Window Treatment

If you are thinking like me, you might believe that gathered curtains or draperies look so much better if every tuck is consistently the same. Doing that is easier than you might think. There are actually three diverse methods to handle the problem and I promise that, one way or another, you can get it. Sometimes even pleated window treatments need coaxing if the textile is spongy or firm and, of course, the best method is to choose a silky pliable textile in the first place. This is not every time probable so lets talk about how to form wonderful pleats regardless of what textile is applied even counting eyelet curtains or lace fabric or a stiff antique satin.

If the drape fabric is quite bendable the easiest first effort would be to put in the curtain, pull each section to one side and physically assemble the pleats evenly. Then secure them back quite loosely together near the top and at the base edge. Once this is finished you can drench the face and rear  of the pleats softly with a mixture of water with a tiny quantity of alcohol added. Do this with a extremely fine spray devoid of soaking the textile. You just want a haze on the surface. You might also massage your fingers casually on every fold while they are still damp forming them into a fine round shape. Leave them for a couple of days. The form of the pleats will very much get better, with any luck to the moment that they are excellent without further fussing.

If the pleats are yet flaring the next method is to employ what in the curtains trade is known as “shot tape” or in textile stores as “leaded weight tape”. It consists of a lengthy, extremely small diameter cotton pipe that is crammed with a single column of around 1/8 inch lead balls to outline a continuous string. Place this string in the base hem from one side of the panel to the other. That adds weight to the drape. You can now assemble the pleats much more easily. After you have arranged them evenly they tend to remain where you have positioned them because of the extra mass and the relative reluctance of the string to straighten out.
