Ideal Body Measurements

Since I started exercising years ago, I’ve always had a dynamic set of fitness goals. But I never had an idea of ideal body measurements to which I could aspire. And what comprises an ideal body in any case? Like many people, I always equated the perfect body with bigger muscles. I’ve come to realize, though, that for most people a pumped up body does not equate to the best looking body. If that were true, then Hollywood stars would all be bodybuilders. Taylor Lautner, one of the sexiest men in Hollywood today, has a sinewy, more angular body then the typical bodybuilder of old. How do you determine what your ideal body measurements are? Let me walk you through finding your perfect body in the post below.

I’ve decided to customize this towards the male perspective since men usually have a harder time determining what is appealing to others and how to set the proper goals to reach that point. I think a lot of people are finally coming around to the fact that bigger isn’t always better.

As I was on my mission to define ideal body measurements, I discovered myself pouring through the pages of bodybuilding sites incessantly, attempting to bring it all into focus. I quickly figured out that these pages won’t help you identify the proper shape. The calculator of bodybuilding legend Steve Reeve indicated that my chest should be in excess of fifty inches. The same calculator indicates that my waist ought to be about thirty inches. Essentially I would have to add muscle mass to my chest to the point where it would be bigger than my shoulders currently are. That doesn’t seem like a reasonable goal, especially if I’m also supposed to maintain a 30” waist and visible abs. I’ll admit that a bodybuilder with my same height should have a weight of 175 lbs. But even with that in mind, I pictured myself looking like one of those strange comic book characters that always looks so top heavy.

John McCallum’s espoused position is quite a bit more realistic. I input my true and target measurements and found that his calculator provided much better results.

Remember that the measurements are provided for a competitive bodybuilder, which does not describe me, but they do give a reasonably good point of beginning for someone in ideal condition. What McCallum suggested was that I should bulk up the most at my biceps, add some bulk to my chest and legs, and keep working to remove some of the fat from my waist and hips. But would having these measurements mean that I am better looking?

The Adonis Effect is the best tactic that I have discovered to achieve ideal body measurements. This plan was consciously developed to incorporate research which indicates the body types that women, and other men, find to be the most attractive. What the researchers discovered was that the most attractive forms were those that had the same shoulder to waist ratio, dubbed the golden ratio, and this then is the goal that you should set for yourself. This golden ratio is 1.618. In addition, researchers found that the most appealing bodies had a waist that was 45% of your height. One of the best parts about the Adonis Effect program is that it not only provides you with the numbers for a perfect body, but it also supplies you with a plan to follow to help you reach these measurements.

My “perfect” measurements are 30.5 inches for my waist and 49.5 inches for my shoulders. My waist is already close to this target number, so all I need to do is add some muscle mass to my shoulders. This sounds like the best suggestion I’ve had so far, as I can imagine the good v-shape that would give me if I were to reach these goals.

So, the bottom line is that ideal measurements are hard to define. You are the most important judge of what you consider ideal. Even if you have a goal that you feel comfortable with, it can be a grueling task to achieve. Everything looks unreasonable when you’re really far away. Don’t be discouraged though – realize that if you start slowly and keep working at it, you can reach your goal, though it won’t happen quickly. The Adonis Effect offers a diet and exercise plan that describes how to get the perfect body.
