Today the population in the USA is obese and unhealthy. The most inexpensive foods tend to have the highest fat content. To save money we purchase high fat foods. To top that off, our fat inducing food is tainted with pesticides, antibiotics, hormones and many times deadly bacteria. We tend to purchase our fresh produce and vegetables at local grocery stores, fast food chains or restaurants. The grocery stores and restaurants don’t tell you where your food comes from or how your food was grown and what pesticides and fertilizers were used to grow your food. Your tomatoes may be from Chile, those grapes may be from Argentina or the beef came from Mexico. Even when these foods come from the United States, that is no guarantee that e coli, salmonella, mad cow or some other as of yet unknown disease hasn’t infected them.
What’s our solution? Your very best solution is nutritious, safe and inexpensive food grown in your very own garden. In today’s fast paced life most of us don’t have the time or the energy, and the available land and green thumb to plant our own garden;and also be able to harvest nutritious, delicious and safe food for your family. A garden and gardening was one of the most important projects for most families, up to about 50 years ago. Growing up in central Mississippi on a small farm, I know it was for my family. The garden provided low cost food and nutrition and we always knew where our food came from. We also raised our own chickens and eggs, pork, and fresh milk and butter. It was safe food and we knew it because we grew it ourselves. Today, with our busy schedules, very few families can afford the luxury of tending their very own garden.
What is the answer? How about organic food for free… If you could have your own organic garden full of organic produce and vegetables, access to thousands of other safe organic foods priced as low or lower that your local store and have them delivered to your front door; then I have to ask, wouldn’t that be better than driving to the store for that bag of chips and cola?
