Pest and vermin control in the Liverpool and Wirral Area has seen a brisk start (2010) which is rather surprising given the somewhat colder (weather of this last winter|winter of 2009/10}.
Liverpool Pest and Vermin controllers were kept busy with the usual city centre rats and mice problems throughout the winter of course, but the somewhat cold early spring has already seen some ant infestation reported.
The rainy summers of the last few years were not to the taste of the hymenoptera (wasps, bees and ants) but this year looks like it will be a busy year for flying ant work.
Regularly ants make nests under the floors of homes and inside cavity walls causing an army of foraging ants to enter kitchens and food cupboards.
However it is at the mating time when they can be most annoying as they create winged males and winged queens which then mate in flight.
The release of thousands of these winged ants inside houses can be traumatic indeed.
A fairly new pest was quite numerous in the Merseyside area last season, the Varied Carpet Beetle (Anthrenus verbasci).
It was unusual for pest operatives in Liverpool and Wirral to meet these pests until recently but they seemed to arrive from nowhere in 2008 and already this spring has seen reports of these beetles in unprecedented numbers.
These insects have a similar life cycle to moths their larvae, called woolly bears eat natural fibres and can do a great deal of damage to carpets and all fabrics. They can be a difficult and tricky pest to eradicate.
We who are involved in pest control Liverpool have noted that Bed Bugs are continuing their renaissance in the Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire area, regularly arriving as unwanted guests in the suitcases of returning holiday makers.
Very often the first reaction of those unfortunates who realise that they have been infested with these horrific,blood-sucking insects is to get rid of the old beds and get.
This is a costly mistake as despite their name bed bugs not only hide in beds and in an infested room will be found everywhere within about fifteen feet of the bed, in cupboards, drawers etc, even in electrical sockets and the new beds will be quickly re-infested.
A lot of people mistake bed bugs with dust mites which are not visible to the naked eye. They both need a different type of pest control
They dine solely on blood which they drink from their sleeping victims. People often associate bed bugs with unhygienic conditions but nothing could be further from the truth, they do not require dirt, their food is you!
