Portable Air Conditioners or Central Air Conditioning?

Even though these are tough economic times many of us try to maintain or improve our lifestyle while, at the same time, cutting costs. Central air conditioning units can be expensive to purchase, operate and maintain.

An often overlooked solution is a portable air conditioning unit. They are much less expensive and are a very versatile appliance to use in your home. After all, it is not economical to use a large amount of electricity in order to keep all rooms in the house air conditioned throughout the summer, when quite often some rooms are hardly used.

Portable air conditioning units can be moved into the kitchen at meal times, into the lounge when relaxing in the evening and moved into the bedroom at night. They are comforting low-maintenance home appliances that can serve the cooling needs of a room for many years at a relatively low price. They can easily be sored away when not in use.

Portable air conditioner units range from $100 to $1,500 with most of them in the range of $250-$600. Lower priced air conditioner units often have manual controls while higher priced units may include a dehumidifier or a heater. These units often come with a window bracket and exhaust hose for easy installation and venting of hot air to insure proper cooling. They save energy compared to a central air conditioner because you are able to target only the area you want cooled with a portable air conditioner.

It hould be noted that you will have to keep these units next to a window to allow the hot air to be vented to the outside. They have a special exhaust tube that is used which goes out of the window.

Portable air conditioners come with energy ratings on them that show how energy efficient they are. In order to save on electricity it is a good idea to go with units that have higher ratings. To find out more about Portable Air Conditioner Units visit Portable Air Conditioner reviews.
