Water Weed Control Methods

If you have a pond then odds are you already know precisely what an aquatic plant is. These will either be at the very bottom of the pond, grow upon the banks of the water, or sit proudly at the top. a few of the most well known plants are called Hydrilla, Water Hyacinth, and finally Milfoil Weevil Of course there isn’t actually anything bad about these plants, after all, some will help increase the oxygen levels within the water. However occasionally you may discover, that this water growth can turn into a hindrance.

Let’s say that you have a family, which is something that many individuals claim, as nurturing a family is a popular thing to do, then chances are your family enjoys swimming or even boating on the pond. Swimming, boating, fishing, are all extremely fun activities to do in the water, that is if you’re able to build a pond adequate for all those activities, however, water life might hinder you from having this enjoyment, whether you understand this right now or not. The truth is, if the plants in the water grows beyond your control, then you will have a mess to deal with. There is a probability that the engine on your motorboat will be clogged by plants, fishing would end in pulling up plant life situated at the bottom, and swimming would be out of the question since the pond will appear just plain ugly covered in both seaweed and lily pads.

Now by what method do you prevent it from happening? There’s several ways, and naturally it’s better that you talk to an expert, and even more important, the laws of your state you reside in prior to carrying out anything extreme. Regardless of any restrictions that you may come across though, there’s ways to save that beloved backyard body of water.

Mechanical – The Aquamog is a machine that is used throught the US for aquatic weed control

Herbicides – There are of course, chemicals which you could utilize to reduce the plant life both beneath the surface, and on the surface. These are called herbicides, and some of the more famous ones will contain copper or fluoride. Remember that a few of these herbicides, especially the variants which have copper, may be harmful for fish. It is also advisable to keep the family out of the water when you’re treating it.

Topography – If you dig your pond on a steep incline, you will halt the development of some plant life, as with a steep incline, those plants won’t be able to make root. Of course, the steep incline indicates there’s no room for error when swimming, therefore it is suggested that you have life preservers on hand, as well as having the family wear life jackets in the water.

Shading – A more interesting technique, would be to lay plastic atop your pond, thereby reducing the amount of natural light that reaches the plants.

Pond Lining – An approach which not too many consider, is lining the bottom of their pond with plastic, so so that those plants are unable to flourish. If you’ve a big body of water, this may be rather impractical because of the huge volume of plastic you will need. But if it’s just a tiny pond then you will likely experience no issue doing this.

Stopping aquatic plant growth is entirely plausible, with enough research, and some help from professionals or different pond owners, you will discover the perfect way to make your pond enjoyable for the whole family group.
